No matter if you clean your home every day a lot of germs and bacteria just wait for you outside. Scientists from the University of Houston made a study which confirmed that around 40% of doorsteps samples have been infected with Clostridium difficile bacteria, and even 39 % came from shoe soles.
Clostridium difficile or C. diff. is not so simple to deal with it. It attacks the digestive system, causing a watery diarrhea with abdominal pain and tenderness.
One article published in the New England Journal of Medicine suggested that around a million of people become infected with these bacteria every year. The fact that 35% of them are hospital patients tells that this condition can be complicated.
And finally, are you wondering how this bad bacteria come to your porch?
M.Jahanagir Alam, the author of the study says that the bottoms of our shoes are exposed of contamination of different sources and regularly they contaminate our doorsteps.
Poop from some animals, including birds is just one part of the dirtiness your shoes become in contact with. This carries C. diff spores, says Alam.
The spores can survive on a surface for months. When a person ingests the spores from the bacteria C. diff. they become exposed of getting ill.
This is why you must leave your shoes outside the door and also ask your guests to do the same. This will keep all those bacteria and germs out, including the dangerous C.diff. Leaving your shoes outside the house door is also a sign of respect for someone’s home.
